We Want to Eat With You, and we did

Our second #WeWantToEatWithYou dinner with Rachel and Amy was delightful, casual and delicious. The fresh salad, baked chicken, roasted butternut squash and green beans were perfectly complimented by an airy cheesecake (but not cheesecake) and avocado cookies (baked by yours truly).

We did not break any china and did not nearly bust a food cruncher (what’s the thing with a motor in the sink that you turn the switch on for?), but I did repeatedly forget to place my glass on the coaster on the table prone to water rings. So I spent the whole night forgetting, remembering and then furtively wiping water off the table.

We talked Craigslist and DIY projects, dog training, taxes and, of course, food.

We reminisced about being raised in cooking families. Rachel’s mom taught her. My mom taught me (and my six siblings). Murali’s mom taught him and is still teaching both of us via Facetime from India. We talked about the sanctity of a dinner table.

Food is a connector. It transcends continents, regions, states and it brings us together in a type of serendipitous harmony.

We should do this more often.
