We’re nearing the end, end, end.
Oh, no, we’re not, not, not.
I noticed a few days ago that the plywood subfloor around the bed frame was wet.
I showed it to mom: “How is this wet?”
There’s no active water through the pipes right now – where is the water coming from?
We hypothesized. Came up with nothing concrete.
So we celebrated the new year and today when I resumed work, I noticed that the plywood was STILL wet. Something’s not right.
I cut a piece of carpeting out and discovered the problem. The two layers of carpet and carpet padding was DRENCHED.
Remember when we tested the water pipes this day?
There was a mishap and water sprayed out of the hose. A lot of water. And the water continued to drip (into that paint pan), but the pan had overflowed one day.
The point is: I had to rip up a shit-ton more carpet today. And this wasn’t any carpet. This was sopping wet carpet. A lot of it.
I managed to unscrew that original {effing} heavy water tank from the floor and prop it up so that I could slide the wet, gross carpet out from under it.
Speaking of gross, I wore gloves through this ordeal. Forty-one year old carpet is gross enough. WET, 41-year-old carpet is grosser. {Grosser is a word.}
The carpet was so wet that even when I’d removed it, there was puddled water on the subfloor that I had to mop up.
The good news is that the floor is in good condition – no rotting. That means the water pooling is not indicative of an old water leak, but due to our plumbing experiment the other day. I’m hoping it will dry out in the next couple of days (thank goodness for Texas’ unpredictable weather and 65 degree days in January).
In other news, I bought the flooring materials today. That’s a project for Sunday!
