Trailer Living: Here’s to the next 183 days in the travel trailer

trailerquoteOn Dec. 20, we moved in for what we thought would be a six-month adventure.

Me. Her. Tuck. Skye.

In a travel trailer.

Six months.

We’ve had splendid adventures and life has been good in the last 183 days:

  • Frozen water pipes for a solid day.
  • A non-functioning furnace + 13-degree nights makes you re-think life in general. As in, “This might actually be how I die.”
  • All manner of weather extremes. Hail, snow, ice, magnificent thunder storms, rain, eerie tornado skies, hellish heat. You realize how close you are to nature when rain’s hammering the trailer roof 12 inches from your face while you’re stretched out in bed. Or when you have to crank up the volume on the TV because the wind and rain are pounding (only to find out later THAT was a tornado watch, or warning…whichever.)
  • Epic mice. In the trailer. On Mom’s bed. In plain sight.
  • The addition of Henrietta, Gertrude and later, Leonard. And how they now greet me every morning at the trailer door in seach for a dog food handout. If we’re not fast enough, they’ll just come inside. Uh-huh. Our chickens are pets.
  • Tuck and Skye procreated and we delivered a puppy! A darling baby girl.
  • We’ve hosted bonfires and overnight guests. Getting the guest room ready means setting up our tent in the front yard. And how splendid the night sky is out the top of the tent. Some nights I want to sleep out there just because of the sky.
  • We’ve played hundreds of games of Yahtzee, drank gallons of coffee at the trailer table and served dinner to friends.
  • The trailer has been a headquarters for VoiceBox Media, either using my outdoor workspace, or gathering in the AC around the table and loveseat.
  • We’ve gotten healthier, ran races, joined gyms, hiked miles.

And now we’re thrilled for what the next 183 days hold for us.

Yep. We’re in it for Round Two.

We are incredibly blessed by our landlord and with the opportunity we have to stay in our tiny 320-square-foot home for another six months.

This is the life that I love right now.
