Last week’s tasks: replace the bathroom floor and finish painting the bathroom.
The bathroom floor is the weakest in the trailer, so we knew we needed to replace it, though replacing it was a bit frightening because we weren’t sure if, when removed, we’d have anything structurally to hammer new plywood into. Theoretically there should be a framework of 2×4 studs, but we didn’t want to risk getting too deep in the project of replacing all that business when we need to move into the trailer in a few weeks.
So we did the second best thing.
Mom’s the measurer and cutter because i don’t have the patience for that exact science.
What sounds like the most difficult part of this rehab was actually the easiest. It took 10 minutes. She measured and cut the new plywood and – voila!
We have a new floor in the bathroom.
That same day I finished painting the bathroom walls.
And I reinstalled the cabinet doors. These cabinet handles are some of the only original hardware I decided to keep in the trailer. They are delightfully vintage and after being cleaned and polished, they are like new.
Don’t be alarmed by this situation found under the bed. (Yes, under the bed). That tank you see is the fresh water tank, which we won’t use because we’ll have a direct water line. That (original) propane hot water tank will be replaced by an energy efficient tankless hot water heater.
But what I really want to point out is this:
This is the day we tested the water system for any leaks and to make sure that water arrived to all its points – bathroom, shower and kitchen. Good news! We have a working water system! With this knowledge, our plumber will replace some of this brass you see here with a different water line that’s more flexible and leak-proof around the connectors.
The weather turned cold, so yesterday I brought some work into the warmth of our current trailer. I cleaned and polished all the original brass curtain rods. I thought about replacing them, but I think we’ll end up keeping these original ones.

Plugging the trailer into full power
A tankless hot water heater
Laying the new floor
Cleaning everything (OMG everything)
Decorating!
