Trailer Living: And then there was a runaway chicken and a flamboyant rooster

I brought home two chickens today to join Leonard and Henrietta and it was a little bit of a cluster. I thought I’d tell you about it.

I placed Gladys and Olive’s pet carrier in the small round puppy pen that would house them until evening fell.

Gladys came out of the carrier into the small pen.

And then Leonard came FLYING over and in all the commotion, Gladys flew out of the pen.

And then she flew over the fence into the neighbor’s yard.

And Leonard followed her.

I grabbed a blanket and covered the pen to keep Olive contained.

And then I texted Mom: “We’ve got a runaway chicken and Leonard went after her.”

And then I was bit by a red ant.

And then Leonard came home, but no Gladys.

And Leonard and Olive introduced themselves through the wire mesh of the small pen, and Leonard was at least two feet taller, he was so testosterone-infused.

And then I took some Benadryl for my foot and emailed my afternoon meeting: “We can talk on the phone. But I’ve been bit by a red ant, I’ve taken Benadryl and I’ve got a runaway chicken and a flamboyant rooster.”

I tried to get Leonard to the chicken coop so he wouldn’t scare Gladys away. She was trying to return.

He would not follow me. He knew my tricks.

And then I sat on the couch and when I looked out the window to check on Olive, I saw Gladys!

And I texted Mom: “Gladys is home!”

And then Leonard was showing her where the fresh water is, and he fed her a bug. I think that’s when they fell in love.

We let Olive loose to join the small flock.

And now they are all together: Leonard, Henrietta, Gladys and Olive.

And then Leonard brought them to the front step. This is where the dog food is.
