After years of penning other’s stories, I completed my own. It has, by far, been the most rewarding and the most challenging writing experience of my life and career.
I began in 2011, finished a draft, and then left it alone for a year. When I dusted it off in 2014, it wasn’t to do as much writing as I expected, or as I was pressuring myself to do. It was to talk about it, to mull it over, to internalize the events and people and come to peace with it in my own soul.
Through that process, the book became much more of my personal journey instead of a factual recounting of events.
Through that process, I became more brave.
